A sea of sunsets, clever new #lifehacks, and perfectly staged photographs are sifted through by our double tapping fingers every day. Instagram is traditionally a stage for people to present themselves in the best way possible, whether that’s the truth or not. Sher Sears of @an.olive.grove is far from your traditional Instagram influencer. Her emphasis on authenticity and realness is a refreshing and unique take on the traditional concept of an influencer.
The Sears family relocated from Portland six years ago. Their family of six, with three sons and one daughter, was used to having space to roam. The transition from acreage to suburban life proved difficult. They started looking for their perfect piece of paradise in Meridian and were overjoyed when a mid-century farm house in their price range popped up. Anyone who has done home remodeling can relate to Sher, who shares, “The house was in rough shape to say the least. It was a total gut job, so we quickly began sketching out ideas and making plans.” They completed all the renovations with the help of their kids and did everything themselves. Although it wasn’t easy, they are ecstatic about the results.
Sher’s Instagram page came about as a way to connect with her new community and an outlet for her life experience. She quickly realized the opportunity available through Instagram and put work into growing a following and becoming an influencer. She is adamant about promoting local businesses in the valley and keeping it real. She says, “I don’t ever want to portray an image of perfection. I am flawed and messy like everyone else and try to be as honest as possible about that.” Her dedication to following Christ helps her to be unashamed by her faults and know that she is loved and made perfectly.
Sher loves being a mom and her kids are her whole life. Her newest addition, Bear Gordon, is 10 months old and has frequent appearances on her page. In the spirit of realness, she shared that Bear has brought some challenges. From fighting sleep, difficulty nursing, and picky eating, Bear has given this momma a run for her money! Being a mom in today’s world is difficult, but Sher strives to constantly evaluate her behaviors so that she can model a healthy lifestyle for her children – and share her trials and victories with you!
She perfectly sums up her experience, “It’s easy for me to compare my real life to the perfect pictures painted in those little squares, which is why I work so hard to be honest about my flaws and struggles as a mom and wife. I can’t share every detail out of respect for my family’s privacy, but I try to be as open and vulnerable as I can. I learned a long time ago that anyone who seems to have a perfect marriage, perfect kids, or perfect life, is just really good at pretending. If you land on my page, I don’t want you to feel badly because my life seems perfect. I want you to relate to my struggles and know that we are not alone even though we may feel that way.”
